The producers come into the room, people start cryin' and stuff
It might be ironic and hip to make fun of Saved by the Bell, but I have no intention of doing that. Indeed, the show was really awful, but everyone knows that. So why dwell on it? Rather, I just want to point out the existence of E! True Hollywood Story: Saved by the Bell:

It's fascinating, to me, to watch those involved talk about the show years later. Creator Peter Engel and other crew members seem to think it was a clever and creative show. Dustin Diamond, here, just seems kind of perplexed about the whole thing. Haley Mills seems kind of embarassed, although she shouldn't - her work as Miss Bliss was typically fine. And Dennis "Belding" Haskins reveals that, even though the part was written for someone "over fifty and black", he knew he had to have the part.

Anyway, there it is. It's pretty entertaining.

Now let's talk about the new 90210...

I'm pretty excited to see what Kelly and Brenda are up to these days - I won't lie about that. Brenda especially. I mean, we haven't seen her since 1994, you know? What's she been up to that whole time? I for one want to know. So that should be exciting.

And I'm glad Nat's back. It wouldn't be 90210 without the Peach Pit, and the Peach Pit wouldn't be right without Nat.

My big hope, of course, is that the show is on long enough for Steve Sanders to show up, at least. Really, what else does Ian Ziering have to do? Lindsay Price's show with Brooke Shields is still on though, huh? So we probably wouldn't get to see the whole Sanders family, which is too bad.

And it'd be great if Andrea makes an appearance, despite Gabrielle Carteris's unfortunately plastic-y face. I had a big crush on Andrea back in the day, which is probably not surprising at all.

You know who I'd really like to see again, actually? D'Shawn or Susan or someone random like that. Just like, "Hey, nostalgic 90s fans - check this out! It's some minor recurring character!"

In conclusion, the point of all this is that I don't care about the new characters at all, and neither will anyone else, probably.

Your crush was on Andrea? I *am* surprised.

Well, it's like this -

Kelly was cute, and reasonably appealing, but so whiny. SO whiny.

Brenda was just not a nice person to be around.

Donna was a joke.

Andrea was sweet and wise and adorable and looked cute in glasses. Brandon was a fool. A fool!

That's before they ruined her with that cheating-on-her-husband-with-some-guy-who-looks-like-Eric-Stoltz nonsense, of course. High school (30-year-old) Andrea.

And I had no idea that Nat was back!

Why'd he leave in the first place?

He didn't. The show was just canceled. In fact, he was added to the opening credits for the last season or two.

Are you sure? (Even as I typed that, I knew you were.) I thought he got married, moved away, and left the diner to Brandon or something.

He got married, but he didn't leave. In fact, Brandon left towards the beginning of season nine, but Nat was there until the very end. He walked Donna down the aisle at her wedding in the finale, in fact. Heh.

And I say this as a guy who watched season ten regularly as it was airing.

Not my proudest moments, but whattaya do?

Man, thanks for making me think about 90210 again. For good or bad, I really loved that show.

Hey I liked it too in the beginning. I watched for a few seasons, not sure how many, but have to admit that they lost me somewhere toward the end. It just got too ridiculous (like all long-running television shows, I'm afraid).

I liked Kelly's sitcom though. What I Like About You. Ever see that one? It's pretty good.

I actually watched that when it was on TV the first time. It was sad when Dustin Diamond talked about how none of the other actors liked him because he was the youngest cast member.
